my great-grandmother, irma ellen carmichael, was an expert seamstress (a true master at hand smocking!) and needlepointer, and all around domestic goddess.  she passed her creative genes, love of sewing and needle crafts -- and her middle name -- to my grandmother, norma ellen, and then to my mother (who fully embraced the 1970's creweling phase!), and eventually on to me.
i see four ellens needlepoint as a way to honor them -- and with a modern twist!
